European Egg Market Under Pressure: How Farmers Are Adapting to New Challenges

The European egg industry is currently facing significant stress. The consumption of eggs is increasing in Europe due to the lower price of this protein source compared to meat. At the same time, the industry is facing important changes with the pressure from society to stop caging layers and having free range eggs, and the avian flu killing many flocks.

This growing imbalance between supply and demand has led to a sharp increase in egg prices:

  • +20% between November 2024 and November 2025
  • +49% in November 2025 compared to the average egg price between 2020 and 2024

In this challenging environment, farmers are seeking to increase flock production to meet consumer demand and extend flock life, as shortages in pullets are linked to the avian influenzia.
