Life Cycle Assessment (LCA): Dietaxion’s CSR commitment to measuring its environmental impact

A CSR approach at the heart of Dietaxion’s strategy

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, Dietaxion is actively committed to quantifying the environmental impact of its solutions. To achieve this objective, the company has launched a detailed initiative based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of its product range.

This approach enables a comprehensive and transparent assessment of the environmental impacts generated throughout the life cycle of its products, from their manufacture to their use in livestock farming. This approach is also consistent with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 9, 12, 13, and 15, as defined by the United Nations.

Our ambition? To provide eco-efficient solutions for agriculture that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and save and optimize nitrogen, carbon, and phosphorus resources.

A recognized scientific and technical support

To ensure the reliability of its analyses, Dietaxion collaborates with qualified partners to guarantee compliance with international standards:

  • EVEA, a recognized expert in eco-design and life cycle assessment
  • INRAE, a leading player in scientific research in agriculture, food, and the environment

High-performance, certified LCA tools

As part of this initiative, Dietaxion has acquired in-house expertise. Its teams have been trained in using specialist environmental assessment software:

  • SimaPro (version 10.2.0.2): used to analyse the production phase
  • MEANS-InOut (version 5.4.4): a tool developed by INRAE specifically for assessing the use phase

These tools allow environmental impacts to be modeled precisely at every stage of the life cycle.

The analyses also draw on recognized databases such as Ecoinvent (version 3.10) and Agribalyse (version 3.1.1). These databases ensure that results are of a high quality and comparable at both national and international levels.

The Environmental Footprint 3.1 method: the European standard

To quantify environmental impacts, Dietaxion uses the ‘Environmental Footprint 3.1’ method. Developed by the European Commission, this method is now the European benchmark for harmonised life-cycle assessments.

The EF 3.1 version incorporates the latest standardization and weighting factors published in July 2022, ensuring an assessment that is reliable, transparent, and comparable.

The EF 3.1 approach enables environmental impacts to be assessed across 16 key categories:

  • Climate change
  • Ozone depletion
  • Human toxicity (carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic effects)
  • Fine particulate matter pollution
  • Ionising radiation
  • Photochemical ozone formation
  • Acidification
  • Eutrophication (terrestrial, freshwater and marine)
  • Aquatic ecotoxicity
  • Land use
  • Water consumption
  • Use of fossil resources
  • Use of mineral and metal resources

This multi-criteria analysis provides a comprehensive and nuanced picture of environmental impacts.

A vision: transparency and reducing the environmental footprint of livestock farming

Dietaxion is pursuing a dual objective through this LCA approach. The company is accurately measuring the environmental impact of its solutions and identifying ways to reduce the environmental impact of livestock farming.

This approach illustrates a strong dedication to transparency and sustainable innovation, supporting the ecological transition of the agricultural sector.

Why is LCA so important today?

Life Cycle Assessment has become an essential tool for making objective comparisons, reducing the carbon footprint of products, meeting regulatory requirements, and ensuring the continuity of the company’s CSR initiatives.

Dietaxion reaffirms its commitment through its products, naturally contributing to the improvement of the agricultural ecosystem and environmental performance. The LCA is therefore an obvious next step in this drive towards sustainable agriculture.
