Answers to your questions

Why choose sodium butyrate instead of calcium butyrate?

The choice of sodium butyrate is based on two key arguments that combine performance and efficiency:

- Better cellular bioavailability
Sodium butyrate contains a single butyric acid molecule, unlike calcium butyrate, which has two. While this may seem to offer a higher intake of butyric acid, the molecular weight of calcium is also higher, limiting its ability to penetrate cells quickly. By contrast, sodium butyrate's lighter structure facilitates its absorption and assimilation at cellular level, guaranteeing optimal efficacy.

- Superior solubility for rapid action
Sodium butyrate is three times more soluble than calcium butyrate. This characteristic accelerates the release of butyric acid into the body, optimizing its beneficial action on digestive function and intestinal health. This rapid release also enhances the product's effectiveness in situations requiring an immediate response, such as during periods of nutritional stress or dietary transitions.

By choosing sodium butyrate, you're opting for a highly bioavailable, rapidly active solution that meets the needs of animal nutrition professionals who demand fast, long-lasting results. Thanks to its optimized performance, Butylin 54 is a strategic choice for improving the performance and intestinal health of livestock.

Can sodium butyrate be used in combination with other additives or ingredients, particularly acids, in food?

To ensure optimal efficacy of Butylin 54, we recommend limiting direct contact with acidic ingredients. Here are our recommendations for use:

1. In food production:
Start by mixing acidic ingredients, such as powdered or liquid acids, chlorides (calcium, choline, methionine, etc.) with raw materials. Next, add sensitive components such as premixes, vitamins and, finally, Butylin 54. This method protects fragile ingredients and preserves their efficacy.

2. For premix production:
First mix acid ingredients with neutralizing agents such as carbonate or clays. Then add the vitamins, followed by Butylin 54 to ensure stability and efficacy.

By following these recommendations, you ensure the safe and effective use of Butylin 54 while maximizing its benefits in your formulations.

What are the advantages of Butylin 54 over nano- or microencapsulated butyrates? What about esterified butyrates?

Butylin 54 offers distinct advantages over nano- or microencapsulated, as well as esterified butyrates, which are also popular alternatives on the market.

Products based on esterified butyrates, such as butyrate esters, or microencapsulated butyrates are often used to improve butyric acid stability, reduce odor, and enable controlled release into the intestinal tract. However, these products require the action of enzymes, such as lipases, to break down the ester or encapsulation and release the active butyric acid. This enzymatic process induces a delay before the beneficial effects are fully observed, thus limiting their immediate action on the valorization of the food ration via the activation of digestion.

In comparison, Butylin 54, thanks to its innovative formulation, releases butyric acid according to the specific pH of the digestive tract, without the need for lipases. This rapid, targeted release from the upper reaches of the digestive system ensures more immediate effects, not just on intestinal health. It improves the value of feed rations and the animal's overall performance. Unlike esterified butyrates, which depend on enzymatic activation, Butylin 54 optimizes the bioavailability of butyric acid as soon as it passes through the digestive tract, guaranteeing greater efficacy for faster, more complete nutritional benefits.

As a result, Butylin 54 stands out as a faster, more effective solution for maximizing the benefits of butyric acid in the upper digestive tract, with enhanced impact on feed efficiency and animal health.

Can Butylin 54 be incorporated into the ration without increasing the cost of the formula?

Yes, it is perfectly possible to incorporate Butylin 54 into the feed ration of livestock without incurring additional formula costs. We have specially developed two Butylin 54 matrices for broiler and layer poultry, enabling optimal integration of the product into feed formulations. This matrix takes into account several key parameters, such as the metabolizable energy value, protein value, phosphorus value and buffering capacity of Butylin 54, to ensure a complete and balanced solution for animal feed.

One of the main advantages of this matrix is that it enables Butylin 54 to be incorporated into feed while keeping production costs under control. Depending on formulation choices and the level of use of this matrix (whether partial or complete), the additional cost associated with incorporating Butylin 54 may be limited, or even non-existent. This makes it possible to optimize feed formulation while maximizing the product's nutritional benefits, without negatively impacting production costs.

So, by choosing Butylin 54, you benefit not only from an innovative solution to improve feed efficiency and intestinal health, but also from cost-effective integration into your feed formulations. This approach makes Butylin 54 accessible, effective and economically advantageous, without compromising the nutritional quality of the food.

Does Butylin 54 have buffering capacity?

Yes, Butylin 54 has a buffering capacity, estimated at 6000 meq per tonne. This buffering capacity comes from the sodium salts used to protect butyric acid, reduce its volatility and reduce odour.

It is important to note that in some cases, particularly in the formulation of foods with high buffering capacity, it may be necessary to reduce or eliminate the addition of sodium bicarbonate. This adaptation optimizes the beneficial effects of Butylin 54, avoiding excessive alkalinization of the intestinal environment, which could interfere with the efficacy of the other ingredients.

Can Butylin 54 be used in the event of digestive problems or illnesses in the batch?

Butylin 54 can be used effectively in the event of digestive disorders or illnesses within a batch. Whether it's a viral outbreak or a dietary transition disrupting intestinal balance, a few weeks' supplementation with Butylin 54 helps restore a healthy microbiota and stabilize digestive function. The duration of supplementation varies from species to species. This approach enables a faster return to optimal production levels, particularly for egg-laying, while supporting the animals' digestive resilience.

Intestinal health is a key factor in performance. Well-developed microvilli and shallow intestinal crypts are essential indicators of a healthy mucosa. The ratio between villi length and crypt depth should be as high as possible to maximize nutrient absorption and reinforce local immunity. Butylin 54 acts directly on intestinal health by promoting an environment conducive to the development of villi and the reduction of intestinal inflammation. This action improves the integrity of the intestinal barrier and optimizes nutrient utilization.

This makes Butylin 54 a strategic solution for maintaining and restoring intestinal health, while supporting livestock productivity and efficiency.
